Summary
- Mining transportation group, Peru
- 9-hour daily drive to transport workers to a copper mine site
- Use of ReadiWatch and MiBand for sleep tracking
- Caterpillar DSS cameras deployed as a reactive safety measure
Background
A group of transportation contractors responsible for driving workers to and from a Peruvian mine site (~9 hours) has integrated Readi to improve driver safety.
Previously relying only on the MiBand for sleep tracking, the team now uses ReadiWatch for a more comprehensive and trusted fatigue management solution.
Leveraging Readi for Sleep Tracking and Fatigue Countermeasures
The long-distance drivers are required to use the ReadiWatch the day before they have to drive in order to log their sleep hours. However, it's estimated that approximately 80% of the driers wear the watch every day.
The 6 supervisors in charge of the long-distance driving group then use ReadiSupervise to track drivers' sleep hours. They compare this sleep data with the sleep data from the MiBand to look for any discrepancies. They then administer go/no-go decisions for drivers based on sleep hours, alcohol tests, and toxicology reports.
A Strong Commitment to Safety
Our Professional Services team continues to provide training sessions to ensure the transportation groups' supervisors get the most value out of Readi. For example, they are working on how they may be able to use ReadiScores to make go/no-go decisions and how to log countermeasures directly in the app to improve their workflows.
As a further commitment to worker safety, the transportation group is planning to deploy DSS driver-facing fatigue cameras in their vans alongside Readi as a reactive measure in cases of imminent risk.
